Common
Being located on one of the busiest streets in Ottawa, Common is a restaurant and nightclub that gets a ton of visual traffic daily. When they asked me to design a series of revolving window displays I felt it was a good opportunity to push what I was capable of and create something unusual.
They gave me a small amount of information they wanted included and I came up with unique designs, tailoring a new version of their logo each time to fit the new graphic. My most recent window entitled ‘Pick Up The Phone’ proved to be a very painstaking operation. I designed the artwork to look like a poorly printed, crumpled old escort flyer. This required hand painting a bitmap image pixel by pixel.
I hand paint all the graphics at a large scale on the windows. These are painted in reverse from the inside of the window. These window displays got a lot of attention locally and the client ended up using the graphics in their branding and merch.
